if what bothers you is that you'd like to have the curve framed when you switch curve, there may be a work around for that.
You can turn on View->Auto Frame Curve and then also turn on View->Selected Parameter You're now in a Maya-like mode, where only the curves you pick in the explorer are visible, and they'll be framed automatically
