this is messed up, I am trying to install this as the bundle, I was given a serial number and product key for 2016 ultimate from support and if I try one the serial number works if I try the other the Product key works but neither will accept both.

If you are using Softimage 2015 R2 from the 2016 suites/bundles, please install 2015 R2_SP2 instead. The fixes are the same in both versions, the only difference is in the supported licensing year.
