I'm genuinely curious as to why they would move to this model? At a time when
The Foundry and SideFX, amongst others, are giving away their software in the
form of Non-Commercial Editions in order to grow user-base and create a loyal
customer-base, Autodesk seem content on trying to hold their userbase/customers
to ransom. I was puzzled when Adobe did it too.

Can someone shed some light on why they might be doing this, as it all it seems
to be doing, currently, is upsetting a large number of their customers.
