I found the Exocortex Alembic google group and found some info. Installed it by copying the modules folder to
C:\ExocortexAlembic\Maya2016\Module - and put the .mod file in C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Maya2016.5\modules - and made sure the path in the .mod file was C:\ExocortexAlembic\Maya2016\Module Still it does not show up in Maya, so I am kind of stuck.
