Required Skills:
-Extensive experience supporting the system operations of a large scale, *24x7
application running on a hybrid unix and windows platform*
-Demonstrated breadth of IT knowledge ranging from Web Middleware, Web
Protocols, Java, eCommerce, Networking, Operating Systems (unix and
windows), Server Hardware, Storage, Databases, Performance, Configuration
and Change Management, High Availability, Business and Systems Monitoring,
and Incident Management
-System administration knowledge of *Websphere Application Server 5.1, IBM
HTTP Server**, ITCAM for Websphere, Websphere MQ*, and related middleware in
a Unix environment
-Highly capable of building tools and scripts to automate and simplify
system operations processes in a unix environment using scripting languages
or environments such as Korn shell, Perl, etc.
-Sufficient understanding of *J2EE application packaging and deployment* to
implement and support scripts that automate the build and deployment process
using Ant or similar build tool.
-Experience building and supporting environments for development, testing,
performance, and disaster recovery
-Experience managing middleware configuration changes and corresponding
lifecycle promotion processes
Preferred Skills:
-Experience integrating build and deployment scripts with Websphere
Application Server 5.1 (and Websphere Commerce Server 5.6.1) would be a huge
plus
-Experience supporting a large scale eCommerce website, particularly *Websphere
Commerce Server*
-Experience supporting Endeca Search in a Windows environment
Years of experience: 5
Excellent oral and written communication skills; highly motivated and
self-directed; passion for process improvement; stays abreast of latest
technologies
Project Description/Daily Assignment
Detailed Description of Daily Assignment:
-Designs, monitors, tunes, and nurtures the production website to ensure
high availability and performance.
-Provides 24x7 system support of the production website. Acts as subject
matter expert for troubleshooting and resolving complex, multi-tier web
problems.
-Supports development and architecture to implement and configure new
middleware and infrastructure required by the application.
-Works closely with platform engineering matrix teams (including unix,
windows, network, monitoring, storage, db2) to implement and support the
systems and middleware. Ultimate owner of the entire technology stack even
though administrator-level access to many components is not granted.
-Automates web site functions such as deploying code and configuration,
restarting processes, gathering performance metrics, moving files, etc.
-Plans for capacity growth and disaster recovery.
-Configures and manages middleware configuration following a formal change
management process.
-Position requires after-hours work to apply patches and support when the
site is at it lowest traffic volume. This will include late nights/early
mornings and weekends.
-Other responsibilities include scheduling and coordination of resources
(both external and internal) to provide network maintenance, hardware
maintenance, software maintenance
