send a stop-a signal from the keyboard. insert a solaris 6/7/8/9 cd. then
at the ok prompt type boot cdrom -s . this will allow you to login as root
in single user mode w/ password. then run fsck on /dev/rdsk/c0t0d0s0
(assuming that this is where your root partition seats. does nto matter if
it is a part of meta device). then mount /dev/dsk/c0t0d0s0 /a
then export TERM to vt100. now vi the /a/etc/shadow file and clear
root's des string in between the two colons. save and exit. the system
will come back up in multi-user mode. Now you can login as root w/o a
password. Don't forget to add a password to root
