Hello Nick,
Why don't you create a new slice in the free space on this disk, and
then mount it under the filesystem you want to extend ?
Other way is to use Solstice Disk Suite ( SDS ) which I believe is
free with Sol8 and 9 for SPARC ( Or Veritas, as Nasser Proposed ) and
create new metadevice.
