I have a very troublesome problem in solaris 8 (and I do not think it is specific to
solaris 8). I run a process using nohup and it terminates after about 9 hours. Because
I close the terminal after I run the process I'm not able to view what error message
the process gave although I'm able to read the partial output. It is not that the
process is killed when I logout because even if I check 8 hours after I logout, I can
see the process running in the top. I have no idea what kills the process. I initially
thought that this could be an AFS problem but then I tried running the process with
all read and write operations from a scratch space local to the machine. The process
still stopped.

1. Has anyone experienced problems like this?

2. How can I see the error message of a nohup process? It is not in the file where I
redirect my output.

3. Any other ideas on the problem?
