Hi List-

I've just done an install of Solaris 10 12/06. My first concern is
getting networking up. I have an Intel dg965ss motherboard with
on-board gigabit ethernet.
What driver is required? I suppose I can use a USB key to transfer once
I get the appropriate driver from another box. I notice USB devices
are not automounted by default.

hello Trey,

not very good news - it seems there are some problems with your build in card that you have (it should be Intel 82566DC right? you may check this with /usr/X11/bin/scanpci or with prtpicl -v). i have found some bugs reported against this card at bugs.opensolaris.org:

http://bugs.opensolaris.org/bugdatabase/view_bug.do?bug_id=6482530
http://bugs.opensolaris.org/bugdatabase/view_bug.do?bug_id=6480859

there is thread discussing similar problem here:

you can take a look at the blog entry "How do I find out what my network device is?"
http://blogs.sun.com/jmcp/entry/how_do_i_find_out

i can not seem to find an entry for your motherboard in the hcl list either... :(

it is frustrating not to have networking... the fastest way to get you going is to add an additional supported pci card.
