Hi! I'd say you have misconfigured the symlink, otherwise you wouldn't get such an error. Make sure you don't have symbolic links pointing to each other since this will cause a symlink loop. Also, make sure you've created SYMBOLIC links, not HARD links since you're creating links on another file system.
Symlinks are supposed to have 777 rights since they inherit the rights of the file/directory they're pointing at. You should probably have done the following: mv /usr/home/popusers/p/petern/mbox /other/disk/petern/mbox ln -s /other/disk/petern/mbox /usr/home/popusers/p/petern/mbox If you need more help, please do the following: ls -la /usr/home/popusers/p/petern and ls -la for the directory where your files are at This way we'll be able to see how the links are created. /Fredrik -----Ursprungligt meddelande----- Från: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] För Peter Nyamukusa Skickat: den 25 mars 2008 08:45 Till: [email protected] Ämne: [Solaris-Users] how to increase the maxsymlinks parameter on solaris Hi Folks, I inherited an old sparc box acting as a mail server with qmail currently the server is have disk space issues as the no of customers has increased over the years. I am currently in the process of sourcing for a new servers and I currently need a quick fix to solve the disk space issue. SunOS host 5.7 Generic_106541-17 sun4u sparc SUNW,Ultra-5_10 I have moved my mail box to another HDD with plenty free space and created a symlink to the original location and changed the permissions on the link to match the original. The problem I am now faced with is that it looks like I am exceeding the default MAXSYMLINKS see below: cd /usr/home/popusers/p/petern bash: cd: /usr/home/popusers/p/petern: Number of symbolic links encountered during path name traversal exceeds MAXSYMLINKS logs from qmail Unable_to_switch_to_/usr/home/popusers/p/petern:_symbolic_link_loop. Any pointers are appreciated Cheers, Peter Nyamukusa MCSE-2000/2003, Linux+, CCIP, JNCIS, A+ _______________________________________________ Solaris-Users mailing list [email protected] http://www.filibeto.org/mailman/listinfo/solaris-user _______________________________________________ Solaris-Users mailing list [email protected] http://www.filibeto.org/mailman/listinfo/solaris-users
