We've had good luck with taking IDE DVD drives and then putting small IDE -> SCSI adapters on them. The adapters are really small boards that plug right into the back of the drive. We put them in external SCSI housing so we can move them from SPARC box to SPARC box as needed. I might can track down part numbers if you would like . . .
