Hi Tom,

(maybe this could be specific to PuppyLinux-Drake Puppy 0.1 -This tested on PuppyLinux Drake Puppy 0.1 «Drake Puppy 0.1 , built from Mageia 1 binary packages. Built with 2.6.34.8 kernel. » )

using Timidity 2.13 + python2.7 + pyalsa 1.0.24 + Solfege3.20.1:

A. timidity is started using the following script
-----------------------------------------------------------
#!/bin/sh
timidity -iA -B2,8 -Os -EFreverb=0 &
-----------------------------------------------------------
as also this one

-----------------------------------------------------------
#!/bin/sh

timidity -iA -B2,8 -Os1l -s 44100 & # character l after Os1 is lower L
-----------------------------------------------------------

B. Problem:
exercise: intervals recognition (second, third ..)
concertinas 1st exercise sound stays on when doing exercise 2: so sound of execise 2 is mixed
with sound of ex. 1 and so on.

this does not SEEM to happen if instrument piano is selected....
BUT
looking at the CPU rate for Timidity : Timidity CPU is increasing whit each new interval even if piano is selected:
for example:
at 1st interval CPU is 2%
at 2nd .......................4%
etc
at 10th.......................12%
...
at 30th........................82%

one hears the processors fans speed increasing, /as if Timidity does not set to zero after each exercise/.

C. Now if exiting GNU solfege, then Timidity CPU smoothly lowers to zero.

If «No sound» is selected in sound setting, then Timiditys CPU stays zero.

Are there similar behaviour encountered on other distros?

Should maybe test on another Puppy version.

Cheers, Charlie

All of the data generated in your IT infrastructure is seriously valuable.
Why? It contains a definitive record of application performance, security
threats, fraudulent activity, and more. Splunk takes this data and makes
sense of it. IT sense. And common sense.
