the reason for the absense is not that it would not be a good idea
rather no one has built it yet ;)

It could be. But i bet leveraging the un-inverted field could make it
quick too.
Could I get some advice on how I'd incorporate that functionality

component myself? I'm not sure how to access multivalued fields
using the
FieldCache...
Check the TermEnum logic in SimpleFacets#getFacetTermEnumCounts()
