I used this with an existing application (with a 1.3 schema+solrconfig) and then another with (an old 1.4 trunk schema+solrconfig). Everything looks fine. Memory usage has decreased.
However, I've seen at least two reports in solr-user about memory usage increasing rapidly when jars are dropped in solr_home/lib which I haven't had time to reproduce. Also there is a report of a deadlock issue with StreamingUpdateSolrServer which I can reproduce. I'll try to look into these issues more deeply later this week. The memory usage issue might be a show stopper. I'm not sure if we should go ahead right now.
