I realized that I was searching incorrectly.
I later realized that if I need to search by specific field, I need to do
as you suggested -
q=appname:App1 .

OR if need to simply search by App1, then I need to use <copyField> to
index my field appname at the time of insertion so that it can be later
search without specifying the fieldname.
