No, a "core" is a lucene index. Two DataImportHandler sessions to the same core will run on the same index.
You should use lockType of simple or native. 'single' should only be used on a read-only index. >From the stack trace it looks like you're only using one index in solr/core. You have to configure two separate cores with separate core directories. Check out the example/multicore directory for how that works.
