Consider using SolrJ, possibly combined with Tika (which is what underlies Solr Cel). http://www.lucidimagination.com/blog/2012/02/14/indexing-with-solrj/ AlthoughExtractingRequestHandler has the capability of indexing metadata as well if you map the fields.
