bluetooth, wifi, wwan you can disable with rfkill switches (nice GUI is
unfortunately missing, I have written my own in perl/tk and a setuid c
program).

firewire just unload the module

optic DVD unit: it should be possible to throw some code at the ACPI
functions to turn it off and on the same way as with wwan/wifi/bt, but
nobody has found the right incantations till now.
