For me everything works under kernel 2.6.30 the same as under 2.6.29, so
I don't think the sony-laptop module is to blame for such problems. Mind
you, I'm not a Ubuntu user. Did you re-compile the module under 2.6.30?
I know that the reported problems with kernel 2.6.30 are not related to
the sony-laptop module. It was a report about the functionality with the
new kernel.
In your system (with kernel 2.6.30) do you have problems with the
internal microphone? And what is the granularity of the brightness
control with the Intel card?
The internal microphone doesn't work under 2.6.30 here, but didn't work
under 2.6.29 either.
For brightness control I use a script of my own which calls xbacklight
or smartdimmer, depending on the card. I made a menu for icewm by which
the brightness can be set to distinct value (5%, 10% etc.), and mapped
the hotkeys to changes of +-1%. This works under both kernels, as there
is no direct kernel dependency, AFAICS.
Greetings,
Bernd
