No, the procedure is not that hard (but the patch has to be prepared
manually and checked with an hex editor before applying). What it does
is to enable the hidden options in the BIOS settings, in particular the
ability to statically (at the BIOS level) switch between video cards.
The cool thing is that you can later change to dynamic switch using the
BIOS settings (what i'll do before trying to install Maverick). The
only other problem I have is that brightness adjustment does not work.

Yes, the patch applies to allow static switching between video cards
(I've not been able to get Xorg to work properly using kernel tuning).
The BIOS patch worked very nice, but I would have prefer not to apply
it and use pure Linux settings.
I still have a drive outside the soft RAID volume, so I'll try to
install Maverick and let you know whether the dynamic switching works.

i'm novel, and this is my first post on this community :-)
I have a Sony VPCZ12X5E with 2 SSD (64gb x 2) with 1920 resolution
monitor and 8 gb of RAM. I want use ubuntu as a normal desktop, I'll
work every day with this lapdop, but I don't want use windows ;-)
I'm reading on internet, that the linux installation, on this hw, is
not easy (path kernel etc.)
Can I install this ubuntu testing version? (Linux kernel 2.6.35) Ubuntu
10.10 (Maverick Meerkat) Alpha 3
I would like install Ubuntu 10.04 LTS, but I'm terrified of problems
during installation.
Another question. I don’t want install 64bit, but a 32bit with a
big-kernel (8gb ram). Is it a problem?
