NATO drone crashes in western Kosovo Released : Thursday, July 13, 2006 1:53 PM PRISTINA, Serbia-An unmanned NATO reconnaissance aircraft crashed in western Kosovo, an official said Thursday. No one was injured. The drone, known as LUNA, came down on the outskirts of Prizren, a town some 80 kilometers (50 miles) south of the province's capital, Pristina, said Capt. Nitsch Heintz, a spokesman for the German contingent of the NATO peackeeping force in Kosovo. The aircraft was used by the German peacekeepers deployed in Kosovo as part of NATO's 17,000-strong force in charge of securing the province. Heintz said the incident was under investigation and reasons for the crash remain unknown. Kosovo has been run by a United Nations mission and patrolled by NATO peacekeepers since mid-1999, when the alliance's air war ended Serb forces' crackdown on the province's ethnic Albanian majority. ------------------------ Yahoo!
