when sorting the metalog for unpriv builds, first run it through sort so
mtree doesn't fail with:
 nbmtree: .: missing directory in specification
 nbmtree: failed at line 1 of the specification

What do you do to provoke the problem?  There's probably a fix that
doesn't involve sorting here.
