YEI-JUBA MINIBUSES STOP OVER PARK FEE DISPUTE

Monday, 16 January 2012 14:06

Minibuses stopped transporting passengers from Yei to Juba on Saturday
over a dispute between the Union and Yei Bus Park administration about
fees charged to owners for using the facility.

The Yei branch of Central Equatoria Transport and Drivers Union has
suspended minibus services from Yei to Juba on Saturday evening in
protest to the high fees authorities charge owners for using the Yei
Bus terminal, Radio Easter reported.

Union representatives sat with County and Bus Park authorities this
morning in a closed-door meeting trying to negotiate a way out for the
standoff.

A source at the County said drivers are being threatened with beatings
if they are caught transporting passengers from Yei to Juba.

It added that passengers in urgent need to travel to Juba have to
catch a minibus far away from Yei to avoid problems.
