JUBA, 20 May 2012 (Gurtong) – The sanitation and hygiene workshop was
sponsored by the Catholic Relief Services (C.R.S).

A CRS official Yongule Atanasio told Gurtong that the training aimed
at empowering the health workers in efforts to boost hygiene in the
state.

He said the training met its objectives despite poor communication and
transport networks that left close to 20 participants out of the
training.

He said the health workers will also be trained on handling hand water
pump machines to ensure safety of water.

A participant at the training David Kuol said the training met his
expectation, saying he will apply the skills gained during the
training.

He at the same time urged the state residents to keep their homes
clean, saying this will keep diseases at bay.

The training came in the wake of massive flooding that has rendered
most roads in the state impassable.

There is a risk of an outbreak of diseases as the state, including the
capital Bor lacks any drainage system.

The State Council of Ministers on Friday deliberated on plans to
construct a drainage system in the town.

The Deputy State Governor and Minister for Information and Communication
Hussein Maar Nyuot told the press that the state government was keen
on addressing the issue.
