BOR, 21 May 2012 [Gurtong] – Residents in the state capital Bor say
the influx of foreign traders has pushed water prices beyond the reach
of poor locals.

Ayong Malual Manyang, a resident of Panliet decried the high prices,
saying the foreign traders were exploiting the locals with the full
knowledge of the scarcity of the commodity.

She, however, criticised the locals for watching as foreigners take
over the lucrative water business.

“Why do we sit idly and leaving foreigners to take over businesses and
jobs within our communities while it is our duty to take part in
building our own nation”, she said.

“I urge the youth to take part in water business in order to uplift
their living standards especially since getting government jobs has
become difficult”, she said.

The Bor residents have appealed to the state government to sink more
boreholes to address the recurrent water shortage.
