Misseriya urge SAF not to withdraw from Abyei

Sudan Safari Abyei, 19/05/12 – A prominent leader of the Misseriya
tribe is calling on the Sudan Armed Forces (SAF) not to withdraw from
the area in defiance of a United Nations Security Council resolution.
“It is meaningless to demand that the SAF withdraws from Abyei which
is within Sudanese territory and thus within the jurisdiction of the
SAF,” prominent Misseriya figure Mukhtar Babo Nimir said in an
exclusive interview.
He further argued that through these demands for the SAF withdrawal,
the United Nations Security Council “wants to cause a problem between
Sudan and the international community” so that Abyei would be handed
to South Sudan. “There is no reason for Abyei to be annexed to South
Sudan,” he said.
He also warned that the Misseriya remain on the ground in Abyei and
will never allow an intervention in their area.
He described as blatant lies video footage and reports of the South
Sudan Police Service personnel redeploying out of the Abyei area.
