Church leaders should stop political inclination JONGLEI, 24th May 2012 (NASS) – The minister of justice in the government of south Sudan, Justice John Luk Jok has warned the Presbyterian pastors in the greater Akobo of Jonglei state to stop political inclinations.
He pointed out that the participation of pastors in the political parties is the root cause of all the divisions and conflicts among the communities in greater Akobo. He advised that participation in political life will lead the pastors not to be respected which will in turn lead to the downfall and emergency of new churches within greater Akobo. Justice Luk who was speaking today at greater Akobo peace and reconciliation conference urged the pastors to unite and leave hatred so as to create peace among the communities of greater Akobo. However, the governor of Jonglei state, Kuol Manyang Juuk yesterday in his welcoming remarks chastised greater Akobo pastors for leaving Akobo to be controlled by evil. According to the governor, greater Akobo is among the areas that have the highest number of pastors in the Republic of South Sudan, and high rate of conflict reported. He appealed to the pastors to cooperate and preach the word of peace within greater Akobo so as to erase the evil and sustain peace among the people. He as well disclosed that the government of Jonglei state in collaboration with the SPLA is doing well in the areas of disarmament though he also said challenges are there. The governor furthermore called on the church leaders especially pastors in the greater Akobo to help in convincing the communities to support the disarmament process. Reported by Martin Jada Gabriel, News Agency of South Sudan (NASS) Greater Akobo intellectuals reconcile political differences JONGLEI, 23 May 2012 (NASS) – The ministers and parliamentarians of greater Akobo, Jonglei state have publicly reconciled their former electoral differences yesterday in Bor town. The reconciliation process was witnessed by the governor of Jonglei state, the chairperson of peace and reconciliation commission in the government of South Sudan, members from Diaspora and youth from greater Akobo. In his remarks during the occasion, the minister for Justice in the government of South Sudan, Justice John Luk Jok urged greater Akobo politicians to forget the past and open a new chapter of development. He said reconciliation is the only way to unity and service delivery to the community saying that they have already reconciled in Juba so their presence in Jonglei is to make it known and corrected by the grassroots. He as well appealed to greater Akobo to embark on agriculture so as to avoid a future food crisis. Meanwhile, the minister for Information and Broadcasting, Dr Barnaba Marial after reconciling with his former rival Gabriel Yuol, highlighted that greater Akobo which comprises Nyirol, Uror and Akobo County is one of the areas that had highest number of ministers, parliamentarians and pastors at both state and national level yet it is one of conflicting areas. He stated that they reconciled to be exemplary in the Republic of South Sudan and to tell the north the people of greater Akobo cannot senselessly dragged into destabilizing the region. However, the governor of Jonglei state, Kuol Manyang Juuk challenged the intellectuals of the greater Akobo not to waste time on political conflicts while leaving greater Akobo without service. He appealed to the greater Akobo intellectuals to come together and forget their differences and participate in service delivery especially schools and roads. Salva Kiir Mayardit today on Wednesday 23rd May, 2012 at the State House received credentials of four non-resident new ambassadors accredited to the Republic of South Sudan. The ambassadors are: 1. Amb. David Birchinall Collins - Canada 2. Amb. Domnik Lanenbacher - Switzerland 3. Amb. Renzo Mario Rosso - Italy 4. Amb. Won- ho Kwak - The Republic of South Korea President Kiir welcomed the ambassadors and congratulated them for having won the confidence of their respective leaders. The ambassadors expressed gratitude to the President for accepting their credentials in the Republic of South Sudan, and they assured him of the readiness of their countries to develop a cordial relationship with South Sudan. In another development President of the Republic met today at the State House with four South Sudan ambassadors appointed recently to different countries. The ambassadors are Amb. Chol Deng Alack to Russia, Amb. Dr. Adrew Akon to France, Amb. Arop Deng Koul to Ethiopia and AU, and Amb. Luise Mangu to Egypt. According to the minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Hon. Nhial Deng Nhial, President Kiir gave to the four ambassadors a green light to go to their respective places and urged them to redouble their efforts in providing the correct image of South Sudan, and strengthen the bilateral relations with those countries. Reported by Thomas Kenneth Agriculture minister concludes Israel visit JUBA, 23 May 2012 - The national minister for Agriculture and Forestry in the government of the Republic of South Sudan Hon. Dr. Betty Achan Ogurau on Monday concluded a seven-day official visit to Tel Aviv, capital of Israel on invitation by her counterpart Mrs Orit Noked Mk Israel’s minister for Agriculture and Rural Development. The invitation came at a time when Israel that has a renowned agriculture and agro technologies held the 18th International Agricultural Exhibition 2012 that attracted participants from different parts of the world. Speaking to the press upon arrival in Juba, Dr. Achan said the exhibition showcased the most up-to-date and comprehensive agricultural technologies, new ideas and innovations for future agriculture. She stressed that through the conference, the Ministry of Agriculture of Israel expressed readiness to help in training South Sudanese cadres in agricultural techniques. In another development Dr. Achan met with the Deputy Foreign Affairs minister of Israel Danny Ayalon and discussed matters of enhancing diplomatic relations between the two countries. She called upon the government of Israel not to implement the forced deportation of South Sudanese refugees in Israel. She assured that the Israel government that the government of the Republic of South Sudan are doing all that is necessary to bring the refugees back home. Israel has a total of about four thousand South Sudanese refugees who fled the country during the long civil war that claimed more the 2.5 million lives in South Sudan.
