Members of Lakes State parliament from Chueibet County have called for
calm and urged youths to refrain from violence.

The appeal followed inter-communal fighting between rival youths in
the county, during which more than 20 were killed on the eve of the
first anniversary of independence of South Sudan.

"We, the honorable members of Chueibet County in Lakes State
Legislative Assembly, have here strongly condemned the action as bad
practice. We appeal to both sides to let them be calm to enable the
government to take action," MP Malek Macut Padai told a news
conference on Friday.

He said the clashes have retarded progress in the state.

"This insecurity has made some schools be closed down and also it has
created the hunger in the area even. And this insecurity has stopped
[but] most of community are not cultivating now. As such, we are
requesting our communities to let them be calm so that we make some
modalities to let the government take its measures," the MP said.
