Uhuru meets South Sudan's VP
Deputy Prime Minister Uhuru Kenyatta on Wednesday met South Sudan Vice-President Riak Machar in Nairobi. According to a statement released by Mr Kenyatta's office, the two leaders discussed matters of mutual interest between Kenya and South Sudan. Dr Machar said he hoped the next elections would be peaceful so that Kenya and the region's stability and economies are not affected. The South Sudan Vice President, according to the statement, said his country will respect the sovereign will of the people of Kenya and that they will work with leaders Kenyans elect on March 4 next year. "South Sudan believes that Kenyans must be allowed to make their choice of leaders as this is their sovereign will," Dr Machar. On his part, Mr Kenyatta said the Constitution Kenyans enacted two years ago would transform the country and added that already, institutions are being rebuilt and issues that led to the violence in 2007 are also being addressed. He also pointed out that political leaders are working together in an effort to reconcile Kenyans. The two leaders expressed their continued support for the Lapsset (Lamu Port, South Sudan Ethiopia Transport) corridor project, saying it would open up the two countries and the whole region. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "South Sudan Info - The Kob" group.
