South Sudan has joined the African continent to celebrate Africa Statistics Day.

The day was marked at Nyakuron Cultural Center in Juba with a call on
government offices, private offices and NGOs to produce statistics.

The Chairperson of National Bureau of Statistics Isiah Chol Aruai,
said figures compiled from the various offices can be used by the
government to provide services to the people.

"If we are to serve our people effectively and efficiently, we need to
develop, we need to have statistics and statistics is not the work of
the National Bureau of Statistics alone. It is the work of everybody.
All the institutions being private, being public, we need to give high
priority to the development of statistics. This one will enable us to
effectively deliver services to our population."

Aruai, explained that African Day of Statistics is mainly focusing on
raising public awareness for the African countries to allocate
resources for the development of the continent.
