TORIT, 28 April 2013 [Gurtong] –Hon. Sebit Quarto says that no single
leader or party will succeed alone and that different political
parties and leaders are teaming up to attain a common goal in good
faith.

He urges the state leaders representing different political parties to
start demonstrating boldness to peacefully put more endeavour in
resolving their differences which might have been caused by power
struggle or notably the April 2010 elections saying.

“Together, we can prosper,” he said.

The UDF leader stresses that the people of Eastern Equatoria State
need peace, better security and stability and above all they need
development in their land.

Additionally, Mr. Quarto appeals to the state citizens to tap talents
they have to help condensing conflicts among warring communities
especially of cattle keepers in the state.

Hon. Quarto, is currently serving as the State Chairperson of
Employees Justice Chamber in Eastern Equatoria said that the ruling
Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) is not exclusive as it sits
on power as other parties view it a threat to them saying unity from
the state leadership of the SPLM party becomes crucial, a move seen as
a direct response by President Salva Kiir tasking the 10 state
governors to reconcile with their political rivals at state levels.

The leader insists that it is time for all irrespective of party lines
or affiliations to come together in unity.

“We must be united. Work together, holds our hands together because we
as leaders of this state have to leave behind tangible legacies for
our generations to come,” he said.

In a bid to achieve the aspiration of South Sudanese for peace and
development, the leader reiterates his call for dialogue to enhance
national unity and to work together for a democratic transition in the
new country.

Like other political leaders, Quarto says the SPLM leadership must
seriously be willing to undertake democratic reforms by engaging
continuous dialogue over unity in diversity and democratic governance
in the state and national levels respectively.

The UDF leader made the remarks when the state governor Louis Lobong
Lojore called the Torit residents to brief them on security, social
and economic situation in the state and at national levels.

He also advised the media to broaden their coverage and remain
comprehensive by engaging impartiality while avoid focusing only on
government activities.

He said the media should instead go extra further outside important
activities that appear to bring peace and stability.

The leader strongly requests women as strong activists to join the
media industry to voicing out communities concerns saying neglecting
such efforts to engage communities through the media especially radios
and newspapers will take the state population nowhere.

Underscoring the importance of the media, Quarto insists that the
media will always help building and bringing peace and stability if it
is engaged in a friendly mannaer acknowledging the fact that the young
country’s government is in a process of building up the country and
defining the common norms and values of freedom of expression.

He notes that without involvement of the media in peace building
processes, no sustainable peace can be easily be attained.
