Food For Assets Programme To Construct Roads and Dykes In Twic East County
The Twic East County authorities have planss to use the Food for Asset programme to help construct the dilapidated roads and dykes in the area. 29 April 2013 Twic East County Commissioner, Dau Akoi Jurkuch. [Gurtong | File] By Jacob Achiek Jok BOR, 28 April 2013 [Gurtong] – Twic East County Commissioner, Dau Akoi Jurkuch said the initiative the community especially in the construction of the feeder roads to connect the payams with the county headquarters. Akoi said that one of the major activities taking place is the Food for Asset programme brought by the Catholic Relief Services (CRS) for development. He said that there will be no more food that can be distributed to the community adding that if one needs food he or she must make a project which can give him or her food for work. Akoi said the community can make the feeder roads and they will be entitled to have food and the assets will remain in the community for development. Commissioner said that other developmental activity that will take place will be the construction of dykes because Twic East community is near river Nile which can be affected by floods every year. He said that his community has been given two dykes of which on can be constructed by machines and other one can be done by the community using food for assets. Twic East County has five payams and each payam has at least three feeder roads connected to other payams and the Jonglei food security has been funded by United State Aids International Development (USAID) for the period of three years. The commissioner says that Twic East was not affected by the floods because of the 2012 contingency plan.
