JUBA, 15th May 2013 [Gurtong] -The Minister of Information and
Broadcasting, Dr. Benjamin Barnaba Marial who doubles as the
government’s spokesperson told the media to report in a way that
promotes peace with Sudan for peaceful co-existence and the
implementation of the cooperation agreement and the implementation
matrix signed by the two countries in September last year and February
2013 respectively.

“The national interest of this country is to promote peace with Sudan
despite all the disappointments and the killing of the chief,” Dr.
Marial said.

He said that a Sudanese team visited Juba and expressed that the South
Sudanese media is hostile to them.

The minister advised the media to write in an effort to promote peace
between the neighbouring countries even when there are contentious
issues between the two Sudans.

South Sudan and Sudan have been in a bitter relationship after the two
nearly went for a full scale war over the claimed oil area of Heglig.
The implementation matrix signed by two presidents of Sudan and South
Sudan have seen ties improve and the resumption of oil flow.

Formally one country, South Sudan seceded from Sudan on July 9th 2011
following the Comprehensive Peace Agreement which resulted into the
self determination vote.

In a related development, Dr. Marial urged the media to improve in its
news standards and the English citing that some media need to improve
and should be fair and balanced in its reporting.
