IRI Conducts Training For Assembly Committee Chairpersons in Yambio
The International Republican Institute (IR) has conducted training on the legislative functions of committees in Yambio, Western Equatoria State. 18 May 2013 By Joseph Nashion YAMBIO, 17 May 2013 [Gurtong] – Speaking during the opening ceremony, the state Deputy Speaker Hanna Lona Bona told the parliamentarians that they should take the training serious and be good listeners as the IRI is trying it’s best to make sure all the honourable members acquire the basic skills to do the right thing expected of them in the parliament and on the behalf of their people. She said that the state assembly has benefited a lot from IRI and still they are expecting more and that the capacity of the members has been built in different levels and they are assured of the governance and the parliamentary procedures. She also announced to the members that IRI has done a tremendous thing for the state assembly after the request was tabled that the assembly wanted to print the conduct of business regulations. She urged the supporting staff to carry out their work effectively as trained as the members are meant to talk and discuss bills to be passed. Additionally she said there are still some challenges in the assembly and they look hope IRI will support them to build the capacity and also to make sure the legislative assembly does its functions in a right way.
