JUBA, 18 May 2013 (Gurtong) - Johnson Poth Matur Akech, also
well-known as Poth Johnson Matur Akech came under attack on Sunday of
April 21 after the exchange of words with the state government Acting
Director of State owned Radio.

The Acting Director Peter Maliap Chieng, denied having attacked Poth
with a pistol during intervention of friends who were attempting to
solve problem outside court.

However, Poth filed a court case against Maliep in Rumbek County
Court, and Judge Santo Yuhana Yuggu sentenced Maliap to two years jail
charged under the criminal code under section 226 and 249.

Poth welcomed the court decision saying that justice answered his suffering.
“I was very scared when I came under pistol gun point threat. I
always stay worried and insecure,” said Poth.

He however added that the sentence did not include a fine because
those articles quoted in South Sudan Criminal Penal Code together 226
and 249 imposed a person with two years imprisonment as well to bail
himself out he must pay1, 400 South Sudanese Pounds (SSP) but those
were not included.

This is the first time Rumbek County Court has sentenced a government official.
