Ikpiro-Momboi Road Work To Commence: Minister
The Minister of Physical Infrastructure and Public Utilities in Western Equatoria State (WES) has said the construction of Ikpiro road leading to Momboi International Airport would commence soon. 21 May 2013 By Joseph Nashion YAMBIO, 21 May 2013 [Gurtong] - Clement Mbugoniwia disclosed this after his Friday meeting with the Executive Director for Yambio County and executive chiefs of Yambio and Ri-Rangu Payams. According to the minister, EYAT Company has been contracted to construct the 25km-road from Ikpiro to Momboi, saying some of the company staff and equipment are already in Yambio. Mbugoniwia said the purpose of the meeting was to brief the chiefs so that they can help in sensitizing the community on the importance of the road and the airport since the development will also affect some people and farms through which the road passes. The chiefs according to Mbugoniwia agreed to carry out the exercise as a board of 11 members chaired by Christopher Turanvutu; the Director for Civil Aviation was formed. Engineer Richard Mizani, the senior Technical Advisor to the Ministry proposed the formation of a board to carry out the sensitization and also carry out a social survey in order to brief the company before the road construction begins. Mbugoniwia called for vigilance from the chiefs on land issues, arguing that since Momboi is going to host the International Airport, it will attract so many interests in terms of land. He urged the community to cooperate with the company in order to bring development to Western Equatoria State, adding that the construction of the road and airport will involve the recruitment of the sons and daughters of the state. He also urged the chiefs to mobilize people who may be willing to sell food items to the people who will be working on the road project.
