JUBA, 21 May 2013 [Gurtong] - He was addressing the faithful on Sunday
in Juba where he said that God cannot bless the country because of
tribalism and urged the congregation to be nationalists.

“This country is very sick and we need doctors. If we are a family of
God, we can heal this country from all the diseases that we are going
through,” he said.

The bishop said that as people of God, all should treat each other as
brothers, shunning tribalism as he added that there is need to thank
the Almighty if he is to bless South Sudan.

According to him, there is need for transformation from tribes if the
country is to be strong and that change should begin individually.

However, he noted that human beings can disagree but advised the
people to treat issues individually other than treating them tribally.

He said that this generation is lucky to have been blessed with a new
country and that there is need to thank God and have a sense of
nationalism, solidarity and faith.

Bishop Deng recognised need for reconciliation and forgiveness in the
country and urged people to stop land grabbing in Juba and in the
country as a whole.

“I want to warn you my brothers in Juba and the whole of South Sudan
that let us not begin grabbing land because God is not going to bless
us,” he said.

He advised citizens to wait for the government to distribute the land
and called on all people to respect the government, arguing that the
South Sudanese government and all governments in the world are chosen
by God.
