TORIT, 27 June 2013 [Gurtong] – A controversy stemmed between the two
top state leaders after Hon. Ambrose Emmanuel Ocholimoi in his opening
speech raising an accusation labelled against Directors in the State
Ministry of Housing and Public Utilities for failing to respect
instruction from Ministering ordering them to issue plots to some MPs
and other politicians.

He stated angrily that there were rampant scandals of plots allotment
in the Ministry in question.

He added a committee comprising of the Directors of the Ministry was
formed by the minister of Housing and Public Utilities failed to allot
plots to some executives and MPS, but they did not instead they turned
awarding themselves with the plots.

The speaker Ocholimoi besides accused some civil servants of corrupt
tendencies in the Ministry of Housing and Public Utilities.

He disclosed that one time some directors (not mentioning their names)
decided on very important issues without the approval of a minister
saying this is disobedience behaviour and must be looked at
critically.

However, the state Governor Louis Lobong Lojore, responded when he
delivered his speech at the Tuesday’s opening of the Parliament’s
fourth session, rejected the move by the Speaker to treat other people
that the constitutional post holders as special to allocate them
lands.

He clarified before the House and Public that there is no one
important than another one, all whether MPs or Ministers must follow
the procedure of land allotment just like any other citizen in the
state because at the end of the day, he or she will be given his or
her rights.

The leader said favouring politicians in the name of constitutional
post holders won’t make a difference at all.

He said he did not know whether the Ministry treats other people
categorically but the practice must be stopped immediately as from
now.

He protested that no constitutional post holder should be considered
in special way when allotting plots but everybody applies in same
manner.

On corruption accusation, the governor Lobong held the Parliament
responsible to supervise, check on government institutions and ensure
wrong elements are wiped out of the system.

In interviews with the press after the occasion, the Speaker Ocholimoi
responded that the governor’s decision was his own opinion defending
that his position on the matter was correct.
