Happy Holidays from the Nuba Mountains!

This time of year families around the world come together to celebrate the
holiday season.

Despite the war, church congregations in Nuba still come together to
celebrate the holiday. The Nuban Christians celebrate Christmas for an
entire month. This allows for different congregations to celebrate with
one another at each other's villages where they dance, sing, and read about
Jesus' birth. Everyone one in the villages, including Muslims and Animist,
attend the celebrations.

Dozens of bombs have dropped on Nuba in the last couple weeks, including a
new more destructive type of parachute bomb. Just this week, a school was
targeted by the bombers. However, the resilience of the Nuba people allows
them to celebrate the holiday. Last year, an Antonov plane flew over the
Lumbine church and bombed the celebration, wounding Pastor Yagub. He has
fully headed and will be dancing with his church this year as they
celebrate the holiday.

Thanks to your generous support, the journalists of Nuba Reports have been
able to document this ongoing conflict. In 2013, we established a regional
office, hired and trained additional reporters, and launched a new version
of our website.

Without the efforts of these brave Nuban journalists, the stories of lives
lost and livelihoods gravely affected would have gone untold.

We need your support for the people of Nuba to tell their story to the
world. Please help us continue this essential work.

In Sudan this month, the fighting has been very heavy, and Khartoum’s
rhetoric and military build-up demonstrates the strongest attempt yet to
put down the Nuban opposition. Meanwhile, the opposition is making powerful
pushes to expand its territory to new areas. Additionally, the crops of
2013 failed largely because of fighting, and as families enter the dry
season empty handed it could be the hungriest year since the war began. For
