*JUBA, 27 January 2014 [Gurtong] -* Speaking to Gurtong on Sunday, the
minister described the report as false. “All the doctors are there, nobody
is killed. They are even now carrying out their duties helping the wounded
heroes and civilians,” said the minister Jiben.

He warned the citizens against listening to such rumours. “Network is now
working anybody who wishes to contact any one from Malakal can do so to
avoid circulating of bad rumors,” he lamented.

“However in the second fights where the rebels entered the town of Malakal,
some of them entered the Malakal Teaching Hospital but they did not kill
any doctor. They threatened some doctors who were treating patients in the
hospital but were not killed.”

Rumours were that Dr Yohannes Edward, the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine
and his colleague Dr Peter Adwok Otto, University Director for External
Relations were killed by the rebels during their control of Malakal.

The two doctors are also lecturers in the University of Upper Nile. Dr.
Adwok confirmed he was alive to Gurtong but said all his belongings had
been taken away.

Dr Otto and others sought protection at the UN base in Malakal when the
fighting between the government and anti-government forces battled for
control of state the capital of the oil rich- Upper Nile state.

The fighting that broke out mid-last month in Juba, spread to Bor, Bentiu
and Malakal has claimed thousands of lives, destroyed property and
displaced a half a million other people.
