By Peter Lokale Nakimangole *TORIT, 27 January 2014 [Gurtong] -* Many of the IDPs are currently overcrowded in Torit and Magwi counties and are in dire need of attention from government and UN Agencies according to state officials. Hifta, who is also the state Gender, Culture and Social Development Minister said launching of an accelerated needs assessment will help state agencies in the region to respond with their respective humanitarian support to the IDPs. Hifta said the assessment is vital as it will enable the government to respond to the IDPs' needs accordingly as their influx leads to draining of the scarce state resources. Speaking to Gurtong this morning, Hon. Hifita said the IDPs who are seeking protection and safety, are lacking most basic needs and services. She said her team in collaboration with partners has expedited the assessment process concluding one of its hectic one over the weekend. The team visited areas in Greater Torit region, Kapoeta, Budi Nimule, Magwi, Pageri, Ifwoto, Imurok, Muruahatiha among others to assess the situation of the IDPs there. "This sudden and massive arrival of IDPs from other states is causing severe strain on the locally availably resources in the region," the state Governor Louis Lobong Lojore said earlier in a press statement. While delivering his government official statements which was attended by NGOs and UNMISS State Coordinator Ms. Hiroko Hirahara Mosko, Lobong reiterated his government and partners' stance to work hard to address the situation as a matter of urgency.
