*WAU, 27 January 2014[Gurtong] -* There has never been a students' union in
the university since its inception in 1990s.

The University's Vice Chancellor Dr. Timothy Telar Deng said the
university is ready for the formation of the Students' Union during
a rally at the University campus by the national Crisis
Management Committee(CMC) which was launched by the Vice President
James Wani Igga on Wednesday.

"We are committed as university administration to the formation of the
students' Union," he said. "The absence of students' Union at the
University has created break-down of communication between students
and the University administration at large."

The Vice chancellor appreciated students' resilience and
understanding of the situation of the university. He called upon the
students to work closely with the administration for the birth of their
Union.

The Vice Chancellor also revealed that the university will commence
operations in two weeks time.

The administration's decision to allow the formation of a Students Union is
welcomed by the students.
