Kenyan high court stops deportation of two SPLM-IO officials to Juba

NAIROBI (27 Jan.)

A High Court in Kenya has issued an order directing immigration authorities
to stop any process for deportation of the two South Sudanese opposition
officials who have been missing in Nairobi since Monday.

Dong Samuel Luak is a prominent lawyer and opposition figure who has spoken
out against human rights abuses in South Sudan.

Aggrey Idri Izbon is a chairman of the SPLM-IO committee for humanitarian
affairs under rebel leader Riek Machar.

Justice Luka Kimaru has directed County Criminal Investigations Officer
Nicholas Kamwende to take over the case and investigate the disappearance
and then present a report to the high court next Tuesday.The judge also
directed the Director of Immigration to assist the police with whatever
information that they will seek in respect of the alleged disappearance of
the two men.The judge has also directed all mobile phone service providers
to provide data on the missing people's communications.

For his part, Pouk Both Baluang, spokesman of the SPLM-IO in Nairobi,
confirmed to Radio Tamazuj this afternoon that the Kenyan high court had
issued an order halting the deportation of the two SPLM-IO officials to
Juba without a decision from the court.

According to the rebel official, the judge also directed the police to look
for the two men who disappeared in mysterious circumstances in Nairobi
recently.
