SPLA-IO denies capture of Owach by government troops

The SPLA-IO faction allied to former first vice president, Riek Machar,
denied government claims that its troops have captured Owach area after
clashes on the west bank of River Nile in South Sudan’s Upper Nile state on
Wednesday.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Thursday, Col. William Gatjiath Deng, Military
Spokesman of the SPLA-IO forces, said the government forces are not in
Owach area. He claimed that the SPLA-IO forces are still controlling
Owach.“We fought with the government forces in Owach area on Wednesday, and
we managed to repulse them, they went back to Lelo. The government claims
are not true, our forces are still in Owach,” said Gatjiath.

Radio Tamazuj could not independently verify the claims.
