JUBA, 18 February [Gurtong] –

The UJOSS' Chairperson, Mr. Oliver Modi Philip made the remarks on Friday
at Juba Regency Hotel while closing a 3-Day training workshop on digital
security, safety and protection against any harm directed to them as
journalists.

He notes that the working environment for journalists in South Sudan
remains unfriendly but maintains that it should not scare journalists, from
executing their duties, roles and responsibilities.“You the journalists
should not withdraw your service. Don't get discouraged, never drop out of
journalism. I want to encourage you to remain committed. I know clearly
your challenges which impede your work. You are not alone but every citizen
is being troubled by economic, social and political problems. But mind you
that God has a purpose and programme for you and me. It is up to you!"

Advising the journalists to remain organized at all times, the UJOSS' Chair
said journalists needs collective efforts to attaining their goal, one of
those being achieving an informed society. He strongly registered a special
thanks to the Open Society for East Africa, OSEA, for its financial support
to his organisation (UJOSS).
