Taking account of the SDGs and other new developments, the main task for BMS6 was to prepare the ground for the Review Conference. *Gaining Perspective: The UN Programme of Action’s Sixth Biennial Meeting* explains how BMS6 fulfilled this mandate, focusing on the contributions it makes to the UN small arms framework, generally, and more specifically to the Third Review Conference. The final section of the paper identifies some of the principal challenges—and opportunities—the Review Conference will confront.
