Hi,

Same here. Went back several times to Oracle also. I do test Postgres with every Spacewalk release because I would be very happy to drop Oracle as the db (listener errors, performance e.g). The spacewalk development postgreSQL roadmap does mention medio 2012 as produktion release so we must be patient I guess.

Mathieu,

I was using the 1.3-dev (pre-1.4 release) branch on postgres, and had to move
back to Oracle as the kickstart functionality was throwing up numerous errors.
As I moved back 2 or 3 of the errors got fixed, but there was still more to do.

Matt

Ok, this seems great, I am not worried about performance issues as I have 'little'
platforms to manage (< 50 systems)

So now my main concern is the kickstart functionality. Anybody tried it ? And
the system set manager to program package deployment in mass ?

Thanks,
Mathieu

My preliminary testing shows that the PostgreSQL backend does everything out
prod set up does with an Oracle back end, only faster (I can only assume that
this is because PostgreSQL is not bound to 1 GB of memory like XE). This
includes:

registering hosts
managing software channels
managing configuration channels
installing and updating packages on systems with yum
scheduling actions
jabberd + osad WORKED right out of the gate

I've not tried SSM or kickstart (I won't be testing kickstart since we don't do
that today).

I can't say for sure whether performance or stability will degrade over time or
not, as I am using a limited amount of clients, channels, and packages for
testing.

Hi,

I would be happy to have some feedbacks from people who tried Spacewalk 1.4
with postgreSQL backend.

More precisely, which main functionalities still does not work ? Kickstart ?
SSM operations ? What about the whole osa-dispatcher - jabber - osad
communication ?

I try to know if I can get rid of oracle and still have a usable (even limited)
"spacewalk" and the wiki is a bit succinct about that :).
