Dear all, apparently this was not a problem with /etc/sudoers.
Our default nsswitch.conf reads "sudoers: ldap" as we keep our roles and permissions in LDAP. For sudo to also consider a local /etc/sudoers I changed it to "sudoers: files ldap". Works fine now.
