Probably some extras files like modules.yaml are needed by client ? No problems or conflicts with the other EL8 channels (CentOS or RHEL) at all. I would suggest you use spacecmd to create your channels and repos for you. It is easier than the common-channels method in my opinion. Here are the commands I used to create my channels and repos (inside the spacecmd shell). Hope this helps.
