I know nothing about LDAP, but the README does seem to be wrong per the RFC:
ldapurl = scheme "://" [hostport] ["/"
[dn ["?" [attributes] ["?" [scope]
["?" [filter] ["?" extensions]]]]]]
so I've changed the README and committed to head. r9359
